Luminaria

A studio for digital places.

Luminaria — opening screen

01The brief

A studio wanted a site that felt like walking into its work: not a grid of thumbnails but a place. The ask was a real-time world with the calm of a film that a first-time visitor could simply scroll into — and, after activetheory.net, an atelier layer that made the whole thing feel authored.

02What we built

Luminaria is a studio site built as a place rather than a page. A prelude of chrome leaves in a storm — sound-reactive, tilting with the phone — resolves through a liquid-glass lens into one continuous camera: a moonlit forest, a pond with a lily that opens as you scroll, a root channel, a pearl-sand coast under the aurora. The scene is authored in Blender and scrubbed in the browser; depth of field, moonlight, a fluid cursor with a thin-film wake, and a generated score follow the journey. Your light has a colour: the hue you arrive with is carried by the ring, the pearl and the heart of the world, and the returning storm leans toward it.

  • Real-time forest, pond and coast in Three.js — reflections, instanced grass, analytic sea, 115 shore stones
  • Blender-authored camera scrubbed by scroll; match cut from the prelude leaf to the world’s leaf
  • Liquid-glass lens, depth of field, moonlight and a post grade shared by prelude and world
  • Generated chapter sound (RMS −28…−32 dBFS), gyro on phones, reduced-motion edition, static transcript when WebGL is off
